00:00:58 Ever heard of Beatboxing?
00:01:01 Or Beatboxers?
00:01:04 Human Beatbox?
00:01:06 I don't... Oh, right, yes.
00:01:08 Making beatbox sounds.
00:01:10 Making noises with your mouth.
00:01:16 A kind of microphone art...
00:01:19 Done with the voice. And
00:01:22 A sort of rhythm group
00:01:26 No, what's that? Beat... what?
00:01:36 Hi, there!
00:01:38 Welcome to my pastures!
00:01:41 That's my dog, Toby.
00:01:43 Sit! Very obedient, huh?
00:02:03 Mostly cooped up inside
00:02:07 All around, far and wide
00:02:12 I'm Wetlipz, from the
00:02:15 And I'm thrilled to be here...
00:02:18 Out in the sun...
00:02:20 Go on!
00:02:23 We do Hip-Hop and Rap,
00:02:27 That's it...
00:02:30 You know, Beatboxing...
00:02:32 When I started in 1999, 2000,
00:02:37 Mostly crap. Then I heard
00:02:40 and I was like, "Amazing!
00:02:43 Beatbox was so new people
00:02:47 "Oh, really, Beatboxing?
00:02:51 "You don't do moves, you make beats. "
00:02:57 In the first battles I was in, it
00:03:02 Basically pretty basic
00:03:07 Doing that well,
00:03:10 ...a bit of scratching or melody,
00:03:15 If the show was good, at least.
00:03:19 Today you'll go to a battle
00:03:24 ...will rattle something
00:03:31 It sounds cool, sure,
00:03:34 That's what I'd call
00:03:38 Mando, my 4XSample Crew homie,
00:03:42 And he's very good, of course.
00:03:45 And what can I say? I'm sure
00:03:50 But it'll be harder this time.
00:03:52 Congratulations!
00:03:54 LAST YEAR... BEATBOX
00:03:57 The German Beatbox
00:04:06 Mando, come on and join
00:04:10 Mando, from the
00:04:13 the new German Human
00:04:17 Congratulations!
00:04:24 You won the Fourth German
00:04:43 Now the winner will serve up
00:04:48 We need the blue cable, guys!
00:05:25 Looks like it works. Thanks!
00:05:38 We need to set up for later.
00:05:40 When I give a workshop, one
00:05:44 is tell people about what Hip-Hop is,
00:05:50 There are five
00:05:53 First of all the DJs, the
00:05:57 Then there's the MC,
00:06:00 That's something a lot
00:06:05 And then...
00:06:06 Next there's Breakdance.
00:06:08 Breakdance is a word
00:06:12 The real term for Breakdance
00:06:17 But the media dubbed it Breakdancing,
00:06:23 Then there's graffiti...
00:06:25 Some call it vandalism,
00:06:28 Sure, there are jerks who scratch
00:06:33 You can't even read them.
00:06:37 And there's Beatboxing,
00:06:41 We had to fight hard to get it
00:06:46 About three years ago we won,
00:06:59 Wait... How did that go again?
00:07:02 Right...
00:07:06 Let's hear some Rap.
00:07:10 Wherever in Berlin that I go The
00:07:14 All the stuff that I'm
00:07:18 Every jerk thinks he's
00:07:21 Not yet in their teens
00:07:25 The system's a bitch Every
00:07:28 Pen bad rhymes about tits and
00:07:32 To know what I mean
00:07:35 You suck, your business is weak
00:07:40 You're way better
00:07:43 This aggro vibe in Berlin
00:07:47 And it's going
00:07:52 Cool. You done?
00:07:54 My turn.
00:07:57 And I'll do Beatbox?
00:08:10 Sittin' here on the meadow
00:08:14 Yeah, this is cool Though
00:08:18 Having a root up my butt kinda
00:08:22 Sitting on the grass
00:08:26 Cool, huh? Bet you can't top that.
00:08:29 Right! All right!
00:08:32 I grew up in a
00:08:34 I said to my mom once the
00:08:38 But that's bullshit.
00:08:42 My family's cool, but
00:08:45 He left us when I was ten.
00:08:49 It was better that way,
00:08:53 They asked me who I wanted
00:08:57 I'd rather live on the street.
00:09:00 I tried it, but I
00:09:03 Then I'd had it and
00:09:07 But that's history.
00:09:09 Anyway, I grew up in what
00:09:12 and dropped out
00:09:15 I had other things on my
00:09:19 Around the same time I moved closer
00:09:25 I got a job where I trained to be
00:09:31 What can I say, I
00:09:33 People always say
00:09:36 But I'm no space cadet,
00:09:40 What's taking him so long?
00:09:42 If that flake isn't here by
00:09:46 One...
00:09:48 Two...
00:09:56 Lucky for him!
00:09:59 Coming!
00:10:09 That's it, keep it up, guys!
00:10:12 Sorry, I had to go buy beer.
00:10:16 The beginning is fairly easy.
00:10:24 That kind of thing.
00:10:28 It's fairly slow at first.
00:10:30 And then it builds up.
00:10:34 And who's going to
00:10:37 Me.
00:10:55 My parents are from Argentina,
00:10:59 It's around 30 kilometers
00:11:03 about as far away as
00:11:07 I was born here in Germany.
00:11:10 I've been doing
00:11:14 And I really enjoy
00:11:25 The battles are where you
00:11:29 It's like a forum where Beatboxers
00:11:34 And then we have jam
00:11:37 Just like in the Bronx, with
00:11:44 Well, almost... It
00:11:48 So, we had this session and
00:11:52 And Mando said he
00:11:55 but we both kind of
00:11:58 It was funny, he was the only one
00:12:03 I suspected right away there was more...
00:12:09 'Cause everyone else was
00:12:12 but he just listened in, with
00:12:17 But the others...
00:12:21 Then we realized we were
00:12:25 so we swapped numbers and
00:12:28 We'd heard there was a
00:12:32 So they exchanged
00:12:35 and Mando told me that
00:12:39 I said, "Oh, the horse guy.
00:12:43 That's Lucky Luke's horse.
00:12:46 Show him why they call you that.
00:12:49 Well, it's because...
00:13:01 It's 'cause of a sound I really like
00:13:07 Then there was the
00:13:11 We were the only team representing
00:13:16 The jury awarded us second place,
00:13:21 but unfortunately that's not official.
00:13:26 The jury just mentioned it in passing.
00:13:31 They loved it and told
00:13:34 But in the end Australia won both
00:13:39 something we hope
00:13:42 There's something going on in
00:13:46 In 2005 we gave
00:13:49 Meaning we were drunk
00:14:32 Where does Beatbox
00:14:36 It's said to be "the
00:14:39 I disagree: I
00:14:42 The technique is
00:14:46 It requires a lot
00:14:49 plus a good sense of
00:14:53 Beatbox isn't just Hip-Hop. You
00:14:58 Drum 'n' Bass, Techno,
00:15:02 Besides that,
00:15:05 to achieve all kinds of
00:15:09 You can imitate horses,
00:15:13 The Foley artist's craft, which
00:15:19 ...is now called Beatboxing.
00:15:37 With 4XSample, we always prepare
00:15:43 For the simple reason that that's the
00:15:49 Usually we rehearse at
00:15:52 We listen to songs we want to
00:15:56 where you mix the beat from one
00:16:01 So we'll work out a set, and in
00:16:05 We'll just jam till we
00:16:09 or an interesting pattern.
00:16:11 Pattern are specific sequences of
00:16:17 and are repeated in loops.
00:16:19 And that's how sets are born.
00:16:21 But we've started using ten-minute
00:16:26 Four minutes, that
00:16:29 We did one set in the 2005
00:16:35 Just imagine, 14 songs in four
00:16:41 It gets too much for people to take
00:16:47 but for the audience,
00:16:50 By the time they recognize a song
00:16:57 So we're cooling it down...
00:16:59 Doing longer sets...
00:17:58 I'll kick the beat, you rap?
00:18:01 Yup.
00:18:03 What tempo?
00:18:06 Okay...
00:18:09 No, seriously...
00:18:21 Sittin' here in the
00:18:24 Enjoyin' the weather
00:18:27 Berlinutz says turn it up, I agree
00:18:32 And we're lovin' it, livin'
00:18:37 That's me, I'm not no hectic MC
00:18:41 Keeping things real in my head So
00:18:47 So come on down And
00:18:50 Wetlipz, Berlinutz, Zirkus Mandolini
00:18:55 Girls dancing, baring it all And
00:19:00 I'm all charged with energy
00:19:04 So come and see us anytime We're
00:19:09 Moving our lips a mile a minute
00:19:13 Oops, lost my thread But
00:19:17 Tomorrow it's off to work in
00:19:23 When I do Beatboxing,
00:19:28 ...was born to make other people laugh.
00:19:33 It makes me happy when
00:19:37 and say, "That guy's
00:19:40 That goes for when I
00:19:44 You joke around with the
00:19:48 If a guy heckles, I might josh
00:19:52 Once they're laughing and
00:19:56 Then you put on your best
00:20:00 That's like pure gold.
00:20:03 And I just go with
00:20:38 When I get home from my drum
00:20:42 the new patterns with my mouth.
00:20:47 Like this...
00:20:53 Wow.
00:21:20 Great... job... I'll say!
00:21:28 Now let's have some
00:21:51 I'm Bee Low from Berlin and
00:21:55 I busted my ass over
00:21:58 to provide the German
00:22:01 with a forum for
00:22:07 I started out
00:22:10 I would time the
00:22:13 each one would get 90 seconds.
00:22:16 And when there was
00:22:19 the sound guys had to
00:22:23 In situations like that, as
00:22:28 ...and keep the audience
00:22:32 till the next act went on.
00:22:34 That's when I realized
00:22:38 People liked it in its own
00:22:42 So I thought, 'Why not
00:22:46 And the idea for the Beatbox
00:22:49 The plans gradually
00:22:52 Maxim, may he rest in peace, who's
00:22:57 He and I thought everything through
00:23:02 And on September
00:23:05 the first German Championships at
00:23:11 Zeero won the first title in
00:23:16 we did some publicity work,
00:23:20 We spread the word to people,
00:23:25 Right away, we were invited
00:23:30 Zeero and I traveled
00:23:33 and it continued with Poland, the
00:23:38 Beatbox Battle was everywhere.
00:23:42 Usually I was on the jury,
00:23:44 as I couldn't very well host
00:23:49 Two champions, and the
00:23:53 Hey!
00:23:56 Sure.
00:23:57 Hi, there. How are you doing?
00:24:00 Here are the contracts.
00:24:03 A copy for each of us.
00:24:06 That's strictly confidential.
00:24:14 Shit, I'm in business
00:24:17 It pisses me off, honestly.
00:24:22 As I was saying, for
00:24:25 I've been hosting
00:24:30 That includes DJ Championships
00:24:34 Breakdance championships,
00:24:39 I've seen the dissing at Rap
00:24:43 "Your daddy this or that... "
00:24:45 And then a big fight breaks out,
00:24:50 And in the end the lights
00:24:54 That's not my scene. To me,
00:24:59 It's about demonstrating our
00:25:03 showing what we can do,
00:25:07 And, without wanting to boast,
00:25:12 That's why I always
00:25:16 Being there is what counts, not
00:25:21 It's not about "that guy's
00:25:24 Sure, when they're on
00:25:27 they'll eyeball each other
00:25:31 you know, mock
00:25:34 But there's no real
00:25:38 And when the show is over
00:25:42 it's friendly handshakes
00:25:45 and they swap numbers
00:25:48 The best example is the
00:25:53 They met at a Beatbox Battle,
00:25:55 they really hit it off,
00:25:59 Now they do
00:26:02 I'm Zeero, two-time
00:26:06 I won twice, but the bigger deal
00:26:11 That's something no one
00:26:14 We were 13 or 14.
00:26:16 I don't know if
00:26:19 but weed was actually
00:26:23 I had this computer game he
00:26:27 So we got together one evening,
00:26:32 He asked if I wanted
00:26:36 I figured he meant on his ghetto
00:26:41 When he started making these
00:26:46 'Wow, what's that? ' I had
00:26:50 And he knew some ace
00:26:54 First I just watched five or ten
00:26:59 And then he went on to do a whole
00:27:03 and I went on playing
00:27:07 That was my first
00:27:10 There was this
00:27:13 People would meet in
00:27:16 kind of like on the Internet
00:27:20 I recognized a friend's voice,
00:27:25 So I start saying his
00:27:28 and imitating Rahzel beats.
00:27:31 He thought it was the CD
00:27:34 He got the CD 'cause of me,
00:27:38 he was bowled over.
00:27:42 When he realized
00:27:44 "Hey, I want to see you do that
00:27:49 When I did a demonstration, he said,
00:27:55 Soon after that
00:27:58 He got me to go on stage with him,
00:28:04 Soon people knew about
00:28:37 Okay, that's enough!
00:28:42 Bee Low, he's some
00:28:45 Just thinking of him
00:28:48 The way I see it, Bee Low
00:28:53 The seminal battler,
00:28:57 He's amazing. I just love him.
00:28:59 He MCs at all the Beatbox battles.
00:29:04 It was a struggle at first, but
00:29:08 Worldwide, even.
00:29:10 Bee Low knows
00:29:13 And practically every Beatboxer
00:29:18 So, really, all I can say is:
00:29:26 Oralic Sound Machines,
00:29:35 For me, it all started when...
00:29:38 Around '83 or '84.
00:29:41 It was a bit different
00:29:44 I didn't get into it by
00:29:48 In my case it all started with me
00:29:53 I actually wanted to do
00:29:58 I experimented a lot.
00:30:00 I'd do animal noises James
00:30:05 I'd do live performances,
00:30:08 And it really went
00:30:11 I traveled all over the place.
00:30:14 And then, sometime
00:30:16 someone told me Beatboxing
00:30:20 And that someone was Maxim.
00:30:26 I had my posse in Wedding,
00:30:29 the part of Berlin where
00:30:32 Maxim's scene was
00:30:35 We each did our thing on our own turf,
00:30:40 But due to the tensions
00:30:44 we'd actually meet
00:30:52 Before the Wall fell, we used to
00:30:57 'cause it was neutral territory
00:31:01 We became good friends with the
00:31:07 They'd turn the key,
00:31:10 "Stand clear of
00:31:13 And there would be a microphone
00:31:18 and the same thing
00:31:21 So, we got hold of one of the keys
00:31:35 Back when I
00:31:37 and started hanging out and I
00:31:42 I thought, 'What's that? '
00:31:45 I was kind of intrigued by it,
00:31:49 to get up in front of the
00:31:53 But Mesia kept saying, "Come
00:31:58 I was still scared, but finally
00:32:02 It kind of went from there.
00:32:05 Mesia and those guys
00:32:08 They showed me lots of stuff.
00:33:18 I'm Neves, and my Beatbox group
00:33:25 It's been about five years. At
00:33:30 I thought it was really weird,
00:33:35 But then one day I went
00:33:38 He's from the U.K. And
00:33:41 I ended up talking to him, and
00:33:46 that I just had to learn that
00:33:48 and get so good that people
00:33:52 Just percussion, melodies...
00:33:55 You know, stuff
00:33:57 And things just kind of fell into
00:34:03 Then a year or two later, I met Mesia,
00:34:08 I attended a few Beatbox
00:34:13 I'm sorry to say Maxim
00:34:18 A situation got out of hand
00:34:23 But Mesia is the one
00:34:25 He knows more
00:34:29 The only people who
00:34:32 are the ones who were there.
00:34:35 But according to...
00:34:37 ...the official story, at least,
00:34:42 his wife was out shopping...
00:34:44 She had the baby
00:34:47 She didn't get a shopping cart
00:34:52 so she loaded the
00:34:56 The problem was, this older
00:35:00 or however you
00:35:02 He went running to the cashier
00:35:07 'cause she wasn't
00:35:10 Which was true, she
00:35:13 Anyway, the man sent the cashier
00:35:18 he said, "Oh, she's a regular customer!
00:35:24 Well, the old
00:35:27 He felt he wasn't being taken seriously,
00:35:32 Anyway, it was Maxim's birthday.
00:35:38 So she gets home and tells him about
00:35:43 "Unbelievable, this old geezer
00:35:47 "He's still down there, making a scene
00:35:53 So Maxim goes down to
00:35:57 "We're good customers
00:36:00 "So please stop
00:36:03 Well, before he could
00:36:07 the guy pulled a knife and
00:36:11 And as luck would have
00:36:15 ...he got him
00:36:17 It wasn't even a long knife,
00:36:22 I guess as a young man he must've
00:36:27 Either in the West or East German army.
00:36:33 Thank you all for coming...
00:36:36 ...and being here
00:36:39 We only just found out she comes
00:36:45 at the site where he died.
00:36:47 And as we already said,
00:36:49 he not only died on that
00:36:53 I mean, on the same
00:36:58 How could something
00:37:01 We still can't grasp it, the wound
00:37:07 We can't forget
00:37:10 Let me just say a few
00:37:13 Maxim was the one who
00:37:17 He was the one who
00:37:21 No one had even heard
00:37:24 He was the one who first brought
00:37:29 He passed it on to the
00:37:33 so they wouldn't devote their energy
00:37:38 but to dancing instead.
00:37:41 'Cause Hip-Hop is an entire culture,
00:37:46 and worked to preserve.
00:37:49 And...
00:37:51 As I said, it's hard for
00:37:55 'cause this is the
00:37:58 Where he was killed in
00:38:01 But the authorities
00:38:04 and we just can't
00:38:08 We still can't
00:38:11 And don't forget the
00:38:14 No violence and no intolerance...
00:38:19 Maxim didn't care if you were
00:38:24 He invited groups from
00:38:28 When bitter turf battles
00:38:32 over tags or streets
00:38:35 Maxim made people see
00:38:38 that wasn't the message
00:38:41 Maxim tried to unite
00:38:44 Maxim lives on in all
00:38:48 Thank you, everybody.
00:39:10 So there I was, on my own.
00:39:13 At first, I was ready to quit.
00:39:16 I mean, you work hard and
00:39:20 only to be told
00:39:23 it's all over 'cause
00:39:26 You wouldn't believe the
00:39:30 Anyway, I tried to...
00:39:33 but get my mind on other
00:39:38 Mostly with young people,
00:39:42 to carry on what we'd started.
00:39:44 If we couldn't
00:39:47 at least I could pass the legacy
00:39:53 And somehow, the
00:39:57 Eventually, we had a
00:40:01 who were totally keen to learn
00:40:06 So one of them said, "Maxim's gone.
00:40:11 "You taught us. Now we'll
00:40:14 I thought that
00:40:17 The cool thing about Maxim,
00:40:22 Yeah, initially it was with
00:40:26 He'd go to the kids on the
00:40:30 to do something: Breakdance,
00:40:34 He inspired them,
00:40:36 showed them they could do more than
00:40:41 He made them see that's not cool.
00:40:47 Winning people over with
00:40:51 I really respect him for that.
00:40:55 There are a lot of kids out
00:40:59 Their parents have their own
00:41:04 harassing cigarette vendors
00:41:08 That's where Maxim tried
00:41:11 and I wish a lot more people
00:41:16 That's what we're trying to do,
00:41:23 I saw how Maxim and the
00:41:26 incorporated Beatbox in their
00:41:31 That really inspired
00:41:34 And I hung out
00:41:37 He was like a
00:41:40 He introduced me to graffiti
00:41:45 Most important, he was a good
00:41:49 And sadly, with
00:41:52 when he was murdered
00:41:56 our dream died along with him.
00:41:58 Maxim had the potential
00:42:01 and make a true
00:42:05 But we're going to keep nurturing
00:42:10 and build on them
00:42:13 And we'll hold them in respect
00:42:17 We know Maxim is watching from up there
00:42:22 Not to sell out the Beatbox
00:42:39 Women in the Beatbox scene...
00:42:42 There aren't very many.
00:42:45 I think partly it's
00:42:48 they could never
00:42:51 It is often pretty heavy
00:42:55 But besides that,
00:42:58 I guess a lot of them,
00:43:01 ...are kind of inhibited.
00:43:03 They're scared to try it...
00:43:07 ...and to venture
00:43:10 And you do have to prove
00:43:36 The cool thing about Beatboxing
00:43:41 Just yourself, and stamina.
00:43:44 You can realize
00:43:47 and turn them into music.
00:43:49 You can do it
00:43:53 You can have fun
00:44:08 Time to take off winter attire
00:44:13 Get rid of that spare tire Now
00:44:17 Let's play hooky and have a
00:44:21 A few 'shrooms and some weed
00:44:25 Now it's light till ten p. m.
00:44:30 We can barbecue and party all
00:44:35 Time for block parties, open-air
00:44:40 Girls strut their stuff, lookin'
00:44:44 Head for the park or a pool that's
00:44:49 Berlin seems far away And
00:44:53 The love, the heat, what you
00:44:58 Just get out, go for it, man!
00:45:06 Yeah, Hip-Hop...
00:45:12 Hip-Hop is cool,
00:45:15 I think the whole Hip-Hop
00:45:19 But it can be kind of
00:45:22 Some things really get on my nerves,
00:45:27 They're not all like that, but a lot.
00:45:33 Hip-Hop is just a word.
00:45:35 They needed a name they could use
00:45:41 I only heard the
00:45:44 In '83 I was into Breakdance,
00:45:48 Which was basically
00:45:51 ...that the MC
00:45:54 It wasn't like today's Rap,
00:45:56 where guys like 50 Cent
00:46:00 Back then the DJ was the main
00:46:04 The MC was the sidekick who
00:46:09 "Yo, you wanna hear what my DJ
00:46:13 I was being crap on purpose
00:46:18 Back then MCs
00:46:20 Sure, Grandmaster Flash on The Message,
00:46:26 It was a stylistic element. And
00:46:31 But we never referred to it as Hip-Hop.
00:46:36 And to our mind, breakbeats
00:46:41 What it's really about is a
00:46:45 It's meaningful 'cause
00:46:49 if you're not into the MC
00:46:52 And it's a culture
00:46:56 Like Heavy Metal is...
00:47:00 It's big hair, tattoos, riding
00:47:04 It's a way of life.
00:47:06 And the same is true of
00:47:10 There's a certain worldwide consensus
00:47:15 You move within those parameters
00:47:20 In brief: It's a culture
00:47:24 In the beginning, Hip-Hop
00:47:28 "us against the world," but
00:47:32 Every Hip-Hopper says he's the greatest,
00:47:38 And everyone else is gay... or a "ho. "
00:47:41 But if everyone sucks except for
00:47:47 Djibutie has a great line:
00:47:52 Not the guy who
00:47:54 There are a lot of posers
00:47:59 "I'm the greatest, the baddest,
00:48:03 They don't get what Rap is about.
00:48:08 not about being the greatest.
00:48:11 If people say you're the greatest,
00:48:15 but 'cause they liked your
00:48:20 That's what Rap's about:
00:48:22 Not bigger balls or obscenity,
00:48:28 I want to welcome
00:48:30 to Kalkscheune for the Fifth
00:48:35 But before we start...
00:48:38 You guys were great last week!
00:48:40 But you left so fast...
00:48:44 It's hard physical labor, about
00:48:49 You're going on alone today?
00:48:51 Another guy from my band
00:48:54 The short one?
00:48:57 The guy from Zirkus Mandolini?
00:49:01 Right... Wetlipz, or Kyrill.
00:49:04 So you may have to go up against him?
00:49:07 It's happened twice.
00:49:10 Depending on how things go, we might
00:49:16 In Munich it wasn't till
00:49:20 I ended up winning,
00:49:23 'cause we knew that either
00:49:31 Tonight we're really
00:49:34 We're back to celebrate
00:49:38 the Fifth German Beatbox
00:49:42 We just toured Germany and
00:49:46 with the four best from each
00:49:52 Tonight...
00:49:54 ...the best young talents
00:49:58 from all over Germany will
00:50:02 They're going to get those
00:50:06 And you know what else?
00:50:09 They're going to party and
00:50:13 'Cause we're not
00:50:17 always dissing each other
00:50:20 We're a community and we're going to
00:50:26 Beatbox, battle style!
00:50:33 Get ready for Wetlipz!
00:50:36 The two-minute elimination
00:52:08 Let's hear it for... Wetlipz!
00:52:17 That was... Wetlipz!
00:52:20 With the whinnying
00:52:24 We'll carry on with the battle
00:52:29 So you four Beatboxers get ready,
00:52:35 Man-do!
00:52:47 Dark-manz!
00:52:51 And the first battle we're going
00:52:57 Uh, yeah, it was
00:53:00 But even if I wasn't
00:53:04 The jury decides...
00:53:08 So, I didn't make it past the
00:53:13 My band 4XSample won the
00:53:17 Maybe I'm better
00:53:57 Maybe Mando will get to the
00:54:01 In any case, he already made it
00:54:07 I definitely think he
00:54:10 But we'll see. The jury
00:54:15 There can only be two
00:54:19 I see a lot of you are waving flags...
00:54:26 Yeah, Mando's in the
00:54:35 Mando will battle Robeat for the
00:54:41 Okay, Berlin...
00:54:43 It's been an exciting night,
00:54:45 and now here's the moment
00:55:00 Robeat: Get ready, get set...
00:55:03 And go!
00:56:06 You play the trumpet? Me, too.
00:56:14 You play the guitar? Me, too.
00:56:25 You want to drive? I'd take
00:57:11 Okay, get a load of this...
00:57:32 My new shoes do
00:58:01 And now backwards.
00:58:44 I would say that was
00:58:48 That was the final with
00:58:59 Zeero, come on
00:59:02 Zeero will present
00:59:08 As you know, Zeero has
00:59:11 as a two-time German
00:59:14 And today he'll present the
00:59:24 Mando is here, he's ready...
00:59:28 Okay, both finalists are
00:59:31 We'll keep it short and sweet:
00:59:34 Robeat, congratulations
00:59:38 The German Vice-Champion!
00:59:41 Congratulations!
00:59:43 Second place... congratulations,
00:59:51 Robeat, your show's the best,
00:59:55 You didn't win this time...
00:59:57 But Stuttgart won in soccer, maybe
01:00:01 to go with this
01:00:04 But, and I only wish Berlin's
01:00:08 The old and new
01:00:11 The title stays in Berlin...
01:00:14 Our maximum respect to...
01:00:16 ...Mando, from
01:00:31 First of all, I want
01:00:35 who supported me always!
01:00:37 When I made funny noises in the
01:00:42 They said, "Hmm, interesting.
01:00:46 I've been at it for eight
01:00:49 And my girlfriend and all
01:00:53 and I want to thank
01:00:56 My roommate... My band...
01:00:58 Thanks to everyone,
01:01:01 And of course... Robeat!
01:01:03 I want you to know he's the
01:01:07 and one of the youngest, too.
01:01:09 He is just amazing, so
01:01:19 Enough bla bla, now for an
01:01:22 I hope you'll join me
01:01:30 I want to play, too.
01:01:35 You have to break
01:01:37 Christen it with spit.
01:02:36 Volker! Thank you, thank you!
01:02:41 It was awesome.
01:02:44 It was... a hard-won victory.
01:02:47 I'm dead tired, and all
01:02:50 and celebrate with the
01:02:54 I have to pee really bad,
01:02:56 but I always have time
01:03:16 A lot has been happening for me
01:03:20 that have helped me
01:03:23 That's one reason I was fortunate
01:03:29 It's important to me
01:03:32 You have keep pushing yourself
01:03:35 and keep fit if you want
01:03:39 And I try to do that: I
01:03:43 I go swimming and
01:03:46 Beatboxing is very demanding
01:03:50 and don't keep fit
01:03:53 you're going to be
01:03:57 You can't keep your arms up.
01:03:59 You need great stomach muscles,
01:04:04 But you need physical stamina.
01:04:06 And I try to keep as
01:04:10 so I can get through all
01:04:13 and still be able to
01:04:25 Well, I have a big
01:04:28 ...or several, actually,
01:04:33 What you see here...
01:04:36 That's my entire
01:04:41 I should point out that the
01:04:45 is to repeat yourself.
01:04:47 If you do one beat three times,
01:04:52 The other guy might not be as good,
01:04:58 He'll be rewarded for having
01:05:02 That's why I wrote
01:05:05 The old stuff, the new stuff,
01:05:09 Then I cross out what I've done
01:05:15 In the end there were five
01:05:18 that I was able to use, with
01:05:23 And my opponent played
01:05:26 He left the goal
01:05:29 All I had to do was
01:05:32 Though I have to say that Robeat,
01:05:37 really is a huge young talent.
01:05:39 I'm sure that in years to come we'll
01:05:45 and he'll be a major force
01:05:56 As for my future, I think
01:06:01 If I succeed... yippee.
01:06:03 If I don't... boo-hoo.
01:06:05 Either way, I'll
01:06:09 and try to go for a triple.
01:06:11 If I pull it off,
01:06:13 to be German Champion
01:06:17 Then I'd retire, from
01:06:20 Of course I still have my band.
01:06:26 Beatboxing will
01:06:29 But most people in the
01:06:33 and I don't think I'll want
01:06:37 I'll go for it one more time.
01:06:40 I'll work even harder,
01:06:42 come with new sounds and
01:06:46 Then maybe I can pull it
01:06:50 But I did it twice,
01:06:53 Major respect to him for that.
01:06:55 I just experienced for myself
01:07:00 Boy, I thought it would...
01:07:03 No, I didn't think it would be
01:07:26 Way cool!
01:07:36 First there was Bee Low Then
01:07:40 Then 4XSample came on the
01:07:45 Sorry, just kidding, you see
01:07:49 It was tough for all of
01:07:54 Beatbox wasn't for cash, just kicks
01:08:00 Now Beatbox has unfurled
01:08:04 Now Bee Low tours the globe, he rules
01:08:10 Maxim, you'd be proud So
01:08:13 Life's a breeze, you know If you
01:08:17 Do your thing, let your ideas
01:08:22 And Pirat from Berlinutz
01:08:25 His rhymes kick butt, he rocks
01:08:29 Most Beatbox ain't worth a mention
01:08:34 But whatever, we're just going to jam
01:08:39 But this shit is hot So
01:08:43 So peace to Maxim and peace to me
01:08:48 Here it comes: The Big Bang!
01:08:58 There's a basic step in
01:09:02 And there are three
01:09:05 Here's the first: The kick.
01:09:14 Make it sharper. Press
01:09:19 One more time?
01:09:21 That's better.
01:09:23 The next is the hi-hat. You
01:09:28 Or just "ttt-ttt"...
01:09:32 I'll do it, then you try.
01:09:37 You can do better than that.
01:09:39 That's more like it.
01:09:41 One more time. Okay.
01:09:43 Next you make a "k"
01:09:52 And then put them
01:09:57 I have a pointer for you, as
01:10:01 It helps to say "bad cat!"
01:10:05 Training module
