His Name Was Jason 30 Years Of Friday The 13th

en
00:00:01 - (eerie music playing)
00:00:21 (screams)
00:00:28 Following the sign
00:00:30 can only mean one thing...
00:00:33 For her, not for us.
00:00:35 You see in 1980 when
00:00:39 released a little film
00:00:43 not even he could have
00:00:45 or the fame or the carnage
00:00:48 With 12 movies to date,
00:00:50 an endless body count
00:00:52 and over a half billion
00:00:55 "Friday the 13th" gave birth
00:00:57 to one of the greatest
00:01:00 She doesn't know what she's in for.
00:01:02 So lock up your cabin doors,
00:01:04 and make sure that
00:01:07 because tonight
00:01:11 So you wondering
00:01:13 His name was Jason.
00:01:16 (blood splattering)
00:02:20 (screaming)
00:02:26 For some of us,
00:02:28 the problems we have as adults
00:02:31 In the case of Jason,
00:02:33 truer words
00:02:35 (man softly)
00:02:37 In the late '70s,
00:02:40 of children's movies
00:02:42 and neither one of them
00:02:44 And we had to do something
00:02:47 And so we came up with this notion
00:02:51 We had a title and a need
00:02:54 - to make some money.
00:02:56 The thing about the story
00:03:00 The longest part of the process
00:03:04 was figuring out the venue,
00:03:06 so I had to find some territory
00:03:10 so that these kids would be
00:03:11 and we could pick them off
00:03:13 My character was sort of like
00:03:15 the Janet Leigh in "Psycho."
00:03:17 I'm the setup character
00:03:19 but I didn't last too long.
00:03:21 We ran into the woods
00:03:24 Cunningham:
00:03:26 would be out at a summer camp
00:03:28 by some kind of serial killer.
00:03:30 We would then be surprised
00:03:33 who the serial killer was at the end.
00:03:35 Mrs. Voorhees,
00:03:38 that her son Jason
00:03:40 drowned while
00:03:42 were off boning somewhere.
00:03:44 The counselors weren't
00:03:47 They were making love
00:03:51 The scariest moment
00:03:54 is when Alice realizes
00:03:58 that Pamela is the killer.
00:04:01 Kill her, Mommy!
00:04:03 Kill her!
00:04:05 And that's the beginning
00:04:08 (screaming)
00:04:12 And when we think all is quiet
00:04:14 and she survived
00:04:17 The boy, is he dead too?
00:04:21 POLICEMAN: Who?
00:04:22 The one who attacked me, the one
00:04:26 Ma'am, we didn't find any boy.
00:04:29 Then he's still there.
00:04:31 And he certainly was.
00:04:34 Lauren-Marie Taylor:
00:04:36 they had us watch
00:04:39 which almost scared me off
00:04:41 'cause it really freaked
00:04:43 After the first one
00:04:45 Jason had been created,
00:04:47 so the notion of having a surprise
00:04:49 as to who it is or what it is
00:04:53 So what the stories became
00:04:55 was sort of a ritualized telling
00:04:58 of a group of young people
00:05:01 - where they shouldn't go.
00:05:04 What are you kids
00:05:08 We come back to Crystal Lake
00:05:10 The ghost of the past,
00:05:13 Jason comes to haunt them.
00:05:15 Todd:
00:05:16 Jason Voorhees kills us
00:05:19 and continues to do
00:05:22 "Part 2" was basically
00:05:24 of seeking revenge
00:05:28 And he's got her
00:05:30 on his mantelpiece.
00:05:32 He just keeps killing and killing.
00:05:39 And that's the journey
00:05:42 It's remarkable.
00:05:44 CUNNINGHAM: I really thought
00:05:47 and I'm delighted
00:05:49 "Friday the 13th Part III"...
00:05:53 "Friday the 13th III" in 3D,
00:05:56 where Jason will choose
00:05:59 The day after the events
00:06:01 so it's technically
00:06:03 but don't tell anyone...
00:06:07 all go up to the cabin
00:06:10 little knowing that Jason
00:06:12 is still out there killing everyone.
00:06:14 Ugh!
00:06:16 Through all the 3D movies
00:06:18 nobody talks about any of them.
00:06:20 All they ever wanna
00:06:23 "Friday the 13th" in 3D.
00:06:27 RYAN ROTTEN: Four is where things
00:06:29 It starts to introduce
00:06:33 who we'll start seeing
00:06:36 I was told that this was
00:06:40 And this again would be
00:06:43 because Jason was going to die.
00:06:45 BARNEY COHEN: Jason had been hit
00:06:47 He had been carted off in an ambulance.
00:06:51 arriving dead at a hospital.
00:06:53 And then Jason breaks out
00:06:55 Leave me alone!
00:06:59 And then the kids
00:07:02 and bump into us.
00:07:05 - and all kinds of things.
00:07:08 and then we all got killed.
00:07:10 In very quick succession.
00:07:11 My character Rob
00:07:15 who was a counselor
00:07:17 This dude looks like
00:07:21 The one time I saw the movie...
00:07:25 on Hollywood Boulevard...
00:07:27 during the whole entire movie
00:07:29 it was like this cathartic
00:07:32 It's a thrill ride.
00:07:34 I remember that we're supposed
00:07:37 gonna pick up the torch
00:07:43 "Part 5" was truly
00:07:46 because they went
00:07:49 They decide they're gonna set it
00:07:53 for weird fucked-up kids.
00:07:55 And there's this dude
00:07:57 and he's using Jason's mask.
00:07:59 We don't see Jason in that movie,
00:08:03 flashbacks... that's it.
00:08:07 When the film opened
00:08:10 in 2,000 theaters
00:08:12 In 1984, that was a lot.
00:08:14 Frank Mancuso called me
00:08:16 2:00, 3:00 in the morning,
00:08:18 so excited,
00:08:21 are like the golden times.
00:08:23 Shavar Ross:
00:08:26 I love the part where
00:08:31 Because you can just see the dummy
00:08:34 just going right on the spike.
00:08:36 Another piece of advice,
00:08:38 don't allow the overweight
00:08:40 of the local ambulance driver
00:08:43 Because chances are
00:08:46 into a Jason clone
00:08:48 ADAM GREEN: They brought him back
00:08:50 at the beginning,
00:08:52 And he was kind of like
00:08:54 that came out of nowhere
00:08:56 and there was maggots on his face,
00:08:58 I think it was extremely violent.
00:09:01 I mean, you look at it and you go,
00:09:02 "Wow, there's tongue-in-cheek
00:09:05 But Jason, in fact,
00:09:08 twists their heads off,
00:09:11 I really didn't want it to be
00:09:15 'cause that had been done. It's sort
00:09:18 at the wrong time kind of thing,
00:09:20 and also try to have the characters
00:09:23 When Nancy's killed
00:09:27 out of her hand, inevitably
00:09:29 that would go,
00:09:31 Kevin Spirtas:
00:09:33 extraordinary telekinetic powers
00:09:36 resurrects him by throwing
00:09:40 into the lake
00:09:42 from a previous movie.
00:09:43 She musters all of her
00:09:47 and thus begins the story.
00:09:54 That's what really made it different.
00:09:56 which he had not fought before,
00:09:59 the psychic stuff would have had
00:10:02 because this monster
00:10:04 He's a surreal monster.
00:10:06 Jason, played by Kane Hodder,
00:10:12 "VII" starts the Kane Hodder era.
00:10:14 Everything about the way
00:10:17 makes him menacing
00:10:22 ELIZABETH KAITAN: I remember thinking,
00:10:25 I grew up watching this,
00:10:28 (chokes)
00:10:30 Since I was doing it for the first
00:10:33 some differences that you
00:10:36 The kids love
00:10:39 ROB GALLUZZO: The coolest
00:10:42 was " Friday the 13th 8:
00:10:45 You get this trailer
00:10:47 and then they reveal that
00:10:49 I live in New York.
00:10:51 "Oh my God. He's coming to New York.
00:10:53 When they first brought me in
00:10:55 the first question I asked them was
00:10:59 Can I take Jason out
00:11:02 The general plot
00:11:04 is a young woman
00:11:07 of Crystal Lake High going
00:11:12 One by one,
00:11:15 The single most amazing thing
00:11:18 as the character was shooting
00:11:22 in "Jason Takes Manhattan."
00:11:23 I felt like a rock star.
00:11:26 (raspy breathing)
00:11:30 "Part 9"...they went
00:11:33 to not having Jason.
00:11:35 There was something about Jason
00:11:39 Joe Lynch:
00:11:42 and to Crystal Lake
00:11:44 and becomes a bunch
00:11:47 and decides to possess
00:11:50 And then gets thwarted again by " 21
00:11:53 Adam Green:
00:11:54 It was kind of other people. Then if
00:11:57 And he could transport
00:11:58 But the best part was when
00:12:01 and he went...
00:12:04 Is that who she was? He went
00:12:07 They basically tried
00:12:11 There are a lot of Jason fans
00:12:14 are pissed off at me
00:12:17 for blowing up Jason.
00:12:21 JAMES ISAAK: "Jason X" takes place
00:12:24 And a group
00:12:27 kids go on a field trip.
00:12:29 These students go on.
00:12:31 They're digging things up,
00:12:35 Anyway, Jason wakes up
00:12:38 We set it up
00:12:41 This time he got killed, right?
00:12:42 Then the nanobots
00:12:45 and now he's part machine,
00:12:47 and so he's more unstoppable
00:12:50 To this day, still,
00:12:53 they're like,
00:13:01 All right, the story
00:13:04 You're bringing these two
00:13:08 Tony Timpone:
00:13:10 before they came up with a story
00:13:13 to support these two characters.
00:13:15 The premise of this movie
00:13:18 to get his powers back.
00:13:20 There came a point where
00:13:23 And I was a Jason guy, always.
00:13:26 So for "Jason vs. Freddy,"
00:13:30 but Jason kick Freddy's ass.
00:13:33 LYNCH: If it wasn't for Alice killing
00:13:36 none of this would happen.
00:13:38 I like Jason Voorhees.
00:13:41 and he has a reason
00:13:43 What a messed up kid.
00:13:46 I think that just
00:13:49 of trying to do it simple
00:13:51 was the thing that drove
00:13:56 After all that,
00:14:00 the bloodthirsty
00:14:04 was at one time
00:14:06 just like the rest of us?
00:14:08 Well, most of us.
00:14:11 Jason not only witnessed
00:14:14 But he was shot and stabbed
00:14:17 and burned and sent to hell
00:14:19 and shot into outer space.
00:14:21 I think to really
00:14:24 you gotta go back
00:14:26 who he is,
00:14:28 why he can't resist
00:14:36 (man softly)
00:14:38 Does Jason have a soul?
00:14:41 He is not mindless.
00:14:45 that the fans would like
00:14:46 what's going on in his head.
00:14:48 Jason started
00:14:50 That's as simple
00:14:51 He's just a little boy
00:14:54 by his camp counselors
00:14:57 and drowned. And no matter
00:15:01 he's still a victim.
00:15:03 For any good villain,
00:15:05 and that thing where you can
00:15:08 He didn't do anything wrong.
00:15:12 Jason was the outcast. Jason was
00:15:15 And now Jason's the one
00:15:18 or the last slash.
00:15:20 Who did it start with?
00:15:21 I'm Mrs. Voorhees,
00:15:25 The fact that she's a loon,
00:15:28 and also channeling her son
00:15:30 Kill her, Mommy.
00:15:33 The idea for the character
00:15:36 of my own past.
00:15:38 Mrs. Voorhees
00:15:41 She is the mother
00:15:44 to avenge her son's death.
00:15:46 if you're gonna have
00:15:48 she might as well be crazy.
00:15:50 Palmer:
00:15:53 And I've said to people,
00:15:57 as much as you do
00:15:59 to be this dreadful human being?"
00:16:02 And they say because
00:16:06 Mrs. Voorhees was
00:16:10 All she was trying to do was
00:16:13 from being drowned.
00:16:17 One of the things that
00:16:19 is that you do have this kind
00:16:22 going from Mrs. Voorhees
00:16:26 Basically, he is fueled
00:16:28 for the death of his mother.
00:16:30 See, it's this seeking
00:16:33 that defines
00:16:36 and also separates
00:16:39 from all the other horror icons.
00:16:42 (screams)
00:16:44 King:
00:16:46 What happens is
00:16:48 when he watches
00:16:51 I believe Alice unleashes
00:16:55 You feel bad for anybody
00:16:57 their mom get their head cut off
00:16:59 Barton:
00:17:02 throws it over his head,
00:17:04 and does his thing. He starts
00:17:07 that he learned
00:17:10 (screams)
00:17:11 I think he observed the camp
00:17:13 kids coming and going.
00:17:15 I think at one point that's
00:17:19 I think what he's doing
00:17:22 And anybody that walks
00:17:28 Honestly, I don't think he's angry.
00:17:31 Poor Jason was brought
00:17:33 and he really had a tough start.
00:17:36 Kaitan:
00:17:38 you would be a very tragic child,
00:17:41 It's like kind of a Ted Bundy
00:17:44 Here was this tortured soul
00:17:47 who lived for years
00:17:48 just on probably the revenge.
00:17:51 I think Ginny kind of understood
00:17:53 there's more to it than just
00:17:57 Jason, Mother is talking to you.
00:18:01 By putting on his mother's sweater
00:18:05 it almost confused him
00:18:07 KING: You see him questioning,
00:18:09 He wanted to believe
00:18:13 I guess Jason was
00:18:14 He wasn't just somebody
00:18:16 who put on a facemask.
00:18:20 He was a whole creature.
00:18:22 LYNCH: It's almost like Jason
00:18:25 of the dark side of all of us.
00:18:27 I find in this character
00:18:30 And there are monstrous elements
00:18:32 that are bent on self-destruction
00:18:35 And there are parts of myself
00:18:37 and I'm unjustly treated
00:18:39 He just hated everything
00:18:43 His reason for killing
00:18:46 Don't reason with him.
00:18:49 It's all in his own head.
00:18:52 He just does it.
00:18:53 He's definitely
00:18:55 but the truth is you can't go
00:18:57 that you've been tortured
00:19:00 At some point,
00:19:04 The main aspect
00:19:06 that enhances
00:19:08 of Jason is that
00:19:12 like death... the death mask.
00:19:14 It's plenty scary,
00:19:16 What is behind that
00:19:19 In "Friday the 13th Part III,"
00:19:21 Jason wears, for the very first time,
00:19:25 which he has taken from Shelly
00:19:28 when Shelly made the bad mistake
00:19:32 carrying the hockey mask.
00:19:33 And the moment when he puts
00:19:35 and realizes it,
00:19:38 'cause it's like,
00:19:42 I should have been wearing
00:19:45 This dock behind me,
00:19:46 this is where the legend
00:19:50 This is the first time
00:19:53 in the hockey mask.
00:19:55 The birth of Jason.
00:19:57 There's something
00:20:00 putting a mask on
00:20:02 and doing things
00:20:06 with that mask off.
00:20:09 Katz:
00:20:11 That's the one where he runs.
00:20:14 in "III" still.
00:20:17 After that he becomes
00:20:19 TODD FARMER: If he sees you,
00:20:22 It's like a beacon.
00:20:26 he's gonna stay there
00:20:28 And it doesn't matter
00:20:30 He's terribly creative.
00:20:33 He really had a thing
00:20:36 and he really had a thing
00:20:38 He likes to puncture
00:20:41 He really likes spears.
00:20:42 ...sawing off heads,
00:20:45 Taylor:
00:20:47 that would splash blood.
00:20:51 ...punching heads off,
00:20:54 I mean, he's a showman.
00:20:55 It was really about
00:20:58 He was the protagonist
00:21:00 He has become
00:21:04 So we just gotta come up
00:21:06 for the Big J.
00:21:08 If we can just get him
00:21:11 you know?
00:21:13 Jason's always been
00:21:15 and everybody roots
00:21:17 Roday:
00:21:19 and them come back
00:21:21 and start taking out
00:21:24 that pick on nerds.
00:21:26 - Why do you do these stupid things?
00:21:30 CAREY MORE: I think he's a little bit
00:21:32 Well, he seems
00:21:34 because he seems
00:21:36 and take almighty blows
00:21:40 Jason is a kid
00:21:43 to know that he's dead.
00:21:44 I think it's always
00:21:46 how we would bring Jason back.
00:21:49 It was almost like the cliffhangers
00:21:53 How does he live
00:21:58 Something's gotta bring him back.
00:22:00 We can blow him up.
00:22:02 We can shoot him up. We can dice him up,
00:22:05 It's great that as times change,
00:22:08 The creature, the monster, the villain, I
00:22:12 Jason is the 21st-century killer.
00:22:15 He's good old blood and guts.
00:22:17 Shepherd:
00:22:20 and a victim.
00:22:22 that survived this many episodes
00:22:25 because he's larger than life.
00:22:28 He's still that little troubled
00:22:30 mentally-ill boy
00:22:32 trapped in the large body
00:22:34 He's become iconic in our lives.
00:22:38 Jason has no expiration date.
00:22:46 (whimpering)
00:22:53 (screams)
00:22:58 12 movies in three decades?
00:23:01 That's enough sequels
00:23:04 like James Bond or Godzilla.
00:23:06 "Friday the 13th" defined
00:23:08 what is considered
00:23:11 Looking at this guy,
00:23:13 But you know what?
00:23:16 to make a "Friday the 13th" movie.
00:23:22 The formula is pretty specific
00:23:26 The first thing you need
00:23:28 is nubile young flesh.
00:23:30 You have a bunch of teenagers
00:23:34 by adult power authorities.
00:23:36 They can't come in
00:23:37 You have to have a reason
00:23:40 It's the " Let's run out
00:23:43 and, " Ooh!
00:23:45 - The crazy old bastard.
00:23:48 I'm the messenger of God.
00:23:51 You're doomed if you stay here.
00:23:54 These movies are made
00:23:57 And so the point of view is
00:24:01 or in a position of authority
00:24:04 because that's
00:24:05 Steel:
00:24:07 of each type of personality.
00:24:10 So that no matter
00:24:13 looking at the movie, you can
00:24:16 CUNNINGHAM: We want to have
00:24:18 but which include all the stereotypes.
00:24:20 You know, the fat guy
00:24:24 and the pretty cheerleader
00:24:26 and then the girl
00:24:28 who is sort of soulful.
00:24:30 The obnoxious teenager
00:24:34 and when he dies, you all cheer.
00:24:36 (laughs)
00:24:37 (gasps)
00:24:39 I think every "Friday the 13th"
00:24:43 who is caught doing
00:24:46 and she pays.
00:24:47 She's usually the first one to go.
00:24:50 And then they are picked off
00:24:53 and you have to figure out
00:24:55 of making the teenagers dumb
00:24:58 without being really stupid.
00:25:01 Because the great thing about
00:25:04 is it gives a lot of people
00:25:07 to be way smarter
00:25:09 There has to be teenagers
00:25:12 and getting killed
00:25:15 Barton:
00:25:17 when you're that much aroused.
00:25:19 It's like he takes
00:25:22 then he fucks you
00:25:24 For the most part,
00:25:27 the higher chance
00:25:29 Also has to be in the film:
00:25:31 every 15 minutes.
00:25:33 It's show time.
00:25:35 We were kind of short
00:25:38 I can only count about three.
00:25:41 Three breasts?
00:25:44 I needed the T&A for me.
00:25:47 And then of course,
00:25:49 - is Jason.
00:25:53 Jason is an unstoppable force
00:25:57 It's interesting how
00:25:59 and nobody could ever
00:26:01 It also kind of seems like
00:26:05 He notices everybody
00:26:07 when they're just gonna
00:26:10 (imitates blade cutting)
00:26:11 And if you go back
00:26:13 that caused Jason's drowning,
00:26:15 it was teenagers canoodling
00:26:17 If you're screwing,
00:26:20 We weren't doing anything.
00:26:23 You have sex, die.
00:26:25 That's the underlying theme
00:26:27 going through
00:26:30 I didn't have sex until I was 30
00:26:32 That motherfucker was the best
00:26:36 Slasher movies particularly
00:26:39 You can't go too long
00:26:42 You can't go more than
00:26:45 Kids went to see these movies
00:26:48 The kills have to be
00:26:51 And even the cast,
00:26:53 the kids would come up to us,
00:26:56 I think that's what
00:26:58 How is the next guy
00:27:00 (screaming)
00:27:03 Help, somebody help me!
00:27:05 CHARLES: It's pure fantasy
00:27:08 These films are better
00:27:09 than the gory
00:27:12 modern killing films
00:27:15 that are made
00:27:18 Usually at the end
00:27:21 a jump scare.
00:27:23 The famous ending scene
00:27:27 They really didn't have
00:27:29 "Why don't we have Jason
00:27:31 and attack her?"
00:27:33 Lehman:
00:27:35 and she's just trailing
00:27:38 And at the moment
00:27:41 (shrieking)
00:27:44 (screams)
00:27:46 Bam!
00:27:49 The reason I think this has
00:27:51 a lot of different ages.
00:27:53 And the music is important
00:27:56 because you're sort of heightened
00:27:58 just with the music
00:28:01 Music and score
00:28:03 It's every bit as important
00:28:06 Harry Manfredini
00:28:09 and it works
00:28:11 Music in a horror movie
00:28:13 It can make or break a film,
00:28:17 was just untouchable.
00:28:19 (softly)
00:28:21 (imitating soundtrack)
00:28:23 (nonsense noises)
00:28:27 - No no, that doesn't sound right.
00:28:30 And if you go to the end of the film,
00:28:34 of Betsy Palmer's
00:28:36 Mrs. Voorhees' mouth,
00:28:38 where she's saying
00:28:40 to herself, " Kill her, Mommy.
00:28:44 And it goes back and forth
00:28:46 and supposedly Jason's voice.
00:28:50 And I said, "Bingo, that's it."
00:28:51 So then I just went
00:28:54 and I took the consonant sound
00:28:56 of the K, "ki" from killer
00:28:58 and "ma" from mommy.
00:29:01 I went up
00:29:03 "ki... ma."
00:29:05 And we ran it through
00:29:08 and it ended up coming...
00:29:12 When you hear that...
00:29:14 you know you've got
00:29:16 It created all the conventions
00:29:20 pretty much using the template
00:29:22 on that first film in 1980.
00:29:27 Obviously,
00:29:31 worldwide icon.
00:29:33 One could say that he's
00:29:36 or Madonna,
00:29:39 if there ever was one.
00:29:42 would be complete
00:29:44 Does Jason have one, you ask?
00:29:47 Let's ask this guy.
00:29:50 - (bones crack)
00:29:53 What are you doing,
00:29:55 So Jason will kill with anything
00:29:59 LYNCH: It was another one
00:30:01 and watch it with a crowd
00:30:04 (gasps)
00:30:06 The obvious most memorable moment
00:30:09 He's like on his knees
00:30:11 Me and my buddy Taso
00:30:13 and I'm pushing
00:30:16 and Taso was
00:30:18 but an accident occurred.
00:30:21 from Taso's pump,
00:30:24 That's what made
00:30:28 My favorite kill of all:
00:30:32 It doesn't get better than that.
00:30:34 - The ultimate kill by Alice.
00:30:37 (mimics knife thrust)
00:30:38 We actually made a cast
00:30:41 I attached it with toothpicks.
00:30:43 So the toothpicks
00:30:45 knowing that when I whacked it
00:30:47 it would go through
00:30:49 But if you watch the movie
00:30:52 her hands come up into frame
00:30:56 They're Taso's hands
00:30:59 I don't have hair
00:31:03 I thought that was
00:31:07 One of the things that turned out
00:31:09 was the back-cracking
00:31:11 - (screaming)
00:31:12 They dug a hole
00:31:14 and those weren't my legs.
00:31:17 in the hole with his legs
00:31:19 But just that whole idea
00:31:22 and hearing all this...
00:31:26 drove them crazy.
00:31:27 A little sound design, a little
00:31:30 Wheelchair death in "Part 2,"
00:31:32 that was just fucked up.
00:31:33 He already gets your sympathy
00:31:35 'cause you're like,
00:31:37 But then he's gonna get laid.
00:31:39 And then Jason just goes,
00:31:43 And not only does he get hit
00:31:45 but he gets pushed backwards
00:31:47 and the camera does this
00:31:54 - (screams, gagging)
00:32:00 Bonnie Hellman:
00:32:03 with a flexible steel blade
00:32:06 and then a false neck over it,
00:32:09 Of course,
00:32:12 at the time, so they had my mouth
00:32:14 It was such a messy little death.
00:32:19 Now cut that out right now.
00:32:27 There was a cable
00:32:29 that ran across to where
00:32:32 The gun was rigged in such a way
00:32:35 onto the cable and shot it
00:32:37 so it went straight
00:32:39 And in 3D with the glasses,
00:32:42 We had to do it in one take
00:32:44 because the minute I hit the water,
00:32:46 the little prosthetic
00:32:49 and just kind of slide off.
00:32:51 The hedge clippers to the eyes...
00:32:53 that girl had the best rack,
00:32:55 and her last name
00:32:58 That was a pretty horrific
00:33:04 That shish-kebab scene
00:33:06 is so original.
00:33:08 (gasps, grunts)
00:33:13 They attached this back to me
00:33:14 and then put the spear
00:33:17 and had the blood
00:33:20 And they had a bed
00:33:22 which had a hole in it
00:33:24 and then she just
00:33:26 and then put her head back.
00:33:28 It looked like I was lying
00:33:30 Before it got butchered
00:33:33 there was this amazing shot
00:33:37 doing the last moment
00:33:39 trying to push
00:33:41 It was such an effective
00:33:45 You imagine Jason down there
00:33:47 What about the dude who goes
00:33:49 and gets the axe
00:33:53 (gasps)
00:33:56 (screams)
00:34:01 (muffled scream)
00:34:02 He took my head by force
00:34:04 and slammed it through
00:34:07 And how they actually did that
00:34:11 They shot it in slo-mo,
00:34:12 pushing through
00:34:14 You start asking yourself
00:34:17 when you're spending your day
00:34:20 - but I got over it.
00:34:23 And it missed me
00:34:24 (screams)
00:34:26 (water gurgling)
00:34:30 - I like it when he crushes heads.
00:34:33 We had a string
00:34:36 so we could just pull the string
00:34:38 and the eye would pop out
00:34:39 come straight
00:34:41 That is horrifically gory,
00:34:45 but it's classic Jason.
00:34:47 Ryder:
00:34:50 is where he dunks
00:34:53 We spent a lot of time on that...
00:34:56 And we not only
00:34:58 but we had to have a false sink
00:35:01 and a glass for the water
00:35:04 the face come toward
00:35:07 - And then...
00:35:11 (shatters)
00:35:14 That was technically
00:35:17 I think his favorite thing
00:35:20 My favorite Jason kill
00:35:21 is the sleeping bag.
00:35:23 He bashed her against the tree,
00:35:26 but we minimized it
00:35:29 And that was
00:35:33 SAVINI: I cut his brain in half
00:35:36 Thank you for letting me
00:35:39 - And this is...
00:35:41 - The...
00:35:43 - Final Chapter."
00:35:47 And we're at the house
00:35:50 This is really the site
00:35:52 Right there.
00:35:54 ZITO: We have a big
00:35:56 And they're all around.
00:35:58 They're all around
00:36:00 and moving the tongue
00:36:02 and working all
00:36:05 The mask hits the ground,
00:36:09 and Tommy ends up
00:36:12 and killing Jason
00:36:16 GIRL: Tommy!
00:36:25 You maybe were expecting
00:36:27 Tommy hits him in the head
00:36:30 No, he slides down the blade.
00:36:33 (gagging, screaming)
00:36:50 (screaming)
00:36:56 Not too shabby.
00:36:58 But creating Jason's handiwork
00:37:01 Neither was creating
00:37:04 I should know.
00:37:05 So what does it take to create
00:37:13 I came up with the idea
00:37:16 'cause originally it was
00:37:18 but the more I worked
00:37:21 the whole subject of that got,
00:37:22 I stuck with the "J"
00:37:25 Tommy Savini,
00:37:27 did all those
00:37:29 gave me some Polaroids
00:37:32 And he said,
00:37:35 Jason.
00:37:38 I said, "He's what?"
00:37:40 His features were really a guy I used
00:37:43 a homeless drunk guy,
00:37:47 He was almost
00:37:51 Lehman:
00:37:53 a cast of your head.
00:37:55 There was fake teeth.
00:37:59 One thing people often ask is,
00:38:00 "Was it specially made
00:38:03 and stuff like that.
00:38:05 No, it was just...
00:38:06 it was a latex prosthetic.
00:38:09 Daskawisz:
00:38:12 and I ran in the woods,
00:38:15 'cause the bag flopped
00:38:17 And he came up with this idea...
00:38:20 and here, and we'll hold it
00:38:24 This way you'll see where
00:38:26 But from taking the tape
00:38:28 I had started to develop burns
00:38:32 Gillette:
00:38:35 and then they started to build
00:38:37 they would glue on.
00:38:40 that created dental plates
00:38:43 that were sort of
00:38:45 anyone could ever have.
00:38:47 And they built the beard
00:38:49 and they taped off the eye.
00:38:51 It's sort of painful
00:38:54 The scene of "Friday the 13th: 2"
00:38:58 comes careening
00:39:00 they built a platform
00:39:04 The platform was probably
00:39:07 So we coordinated
00:39:10 So one, two, three... aggh!
00:39:13 (screaming)
00:39:18 At the time when this was created,
00:39:21 running around in Texas.
00:39:23 And he was killing people
00:39:25 with a potato sack on his head.
00:39:27 This could have been
00:39:29 which I believe the potato sack
00:39:33 than the hockey mask,
00:39:34 which of course
00:39:36 BROOKER: I didn't get any direction
00:39:39 He actually came to me and said,
00:39:42 You're like
00:39:46 I used to have to go in
00:39:48 sometimes seven hours
00:39:50 And it was 11 different appliances
00:39:53 that they glued to my face.
00:39:55 The bad part about it was
00:39:57 it was usually lunchtime
00:40:00 So they used to give me
00:40:04 JUDIE ARONSON: Jason in our film
00:40:07 And his way
00:40:10 was kind of separating himself
00:40:13 I don't remember really him having
00:40:16 I actually turned it down
00:40:18 and later on I did accept it.
00:40:20 After I accepted it, I did go down
00:40:24 and I watched Jason itself,
00:40:26 how he moved and so forth.
00:40:28 And I felt I'd like to play him
00:40:31 I'd like for him
00:40:34 Another way of doing it
00:40:36 to move faster,
00:40:38 That's what I wanted to do
00:40:41 Even when I was in full costume,
00:40:44 I stayed away
00:40:46 I'd sit by myself on the set.
00:40:48 I just stayed away
00:40:50 And I tried to keep in character
00:40:53 I liked the mystique
00:40:55 of being by myself,
00:40:57 not being close to anybody.
00:40:59 The scene upstairs where
00:41:01 with a television set,
00:41:04 little did I know that that
00:41:07 I had no idea where I was.
00:41:10 It was just a hand feeling
00:41:13 You know, I was offered
00:41:16 I could have done either one of them
00:41:19 I'm sorry now
00:41:21 MORGA: In "5," I actually
00:41:25 and I did have a couple moments
00:41:28 play the apparition
00:41:30 of Jason himself,
00:41:32 where those were supposedly
00:41:36 I just played Jason
00:41:39 In the film, obviously,
00:41:42 so they used the blue
00:41:45 for the impostor Jason,
00:41:49 I was wearing the real mask
00:41:51 with the red marks on it.
00:41:53 The makeup with this particular
00:41:56 The Jason character, though,
00:41:59 was a pullover mask
00:42:02 All they had to do
00:42:04 and then put the hockey mask
00:42:06 We never talked about this.
00:42:08 Any motivation...
00:42:11 So I felt Roy was a little disturbed
00:42:15 The first time I put on
00:42:18 and the boots
00:42:20 and I zipped them up,
00:42:24 and I thought, "Is this me?"
00:42:26 Bartalos:
00:42:29 was the creation of Jason's mask.
00:42:32 So we took a hockey mask
00:42:34 and kind of customized it.
00:42:36 We basically redesigned
00:42:39 some of the ventilation holes.
00:42:40 We created basically
00:42:44 From the positive, we made
00:42:46 and from that,
00:42:48 a heavy-duty cement wedge that
00:42:51 on the top
00:42:54 of the hockey mask
00:42:56 At that point,
00:42:59 we did what's called
00:43:01 The vacuforming draws apart
00:43:02 and we pull it out and bang,
00:43:05 we get Jason's mask.
00:43:07 C.J. GRAHAM: When we portrayed it,
00:43:11 Every opportunity
00:43:14 enhanced his knowledge
00:43:18 Every time he was shot and put down,
00:43:25 You know, Tom was very adamant.
00:43:28 When you were on set,
00:43:30 there was some human contact
00:43:32 and people could relate to it.
00:43:34 Jason just is indestructible.
00:43:37 you really project it, and the
00:43:40 100% through the body.
00:43:44 would create fear.
00:43:46 As soon as the mask
00:43:48 it's very simple
00:43:50 Nice thing about it
00:43:52 you don't go to prison.
00:43:58 Buechler:
00:44:01 that Jason ever had was
00:44:02 in the Jason
00:44:06 As far as playing the character,
00:44:10 My goal was
00:44:13 to the character,
00:44:16 People ask me, " Why does
00:44:19 from movie to movie? The hockey mask
00:44:23 Basically, it's because it's
00:44:26 who designs it.
00:44:28 The first movie I did,
00:44:30 the makeup was real extensive,
00:44:32 It took about three
00:44:36 It was hard to work in,
00:44:40 Über Jason...
00:44:42 one-piece suit
00:44:45 that did have a zipper
00:44:48 On the suit,
00:44:51 with the arm and the leg
00:44:54 that had the metallic pieces.
00:44:55 I still love the design
00:44:59 He brought a lot to the role.
00:45:01 No matter who directed him,
00:45:05 you could tell Kane's Jason
00:45:09 Having Kane Hodder
00:45:12 really established him
00:45:15 I think stepping into it,
00:45:19 because a lot of the feedback
00:45:22 was negative, I think,
00:45:24 But then when the movie
00:45:26 it became very very positive.
00:45:28 They were big shoes,
00:45:31 I remember the first day
00:45:33 the first night we shot him,
00:45:36 and there he was in full glory.
00:45:38 I mean, his boots were
00:45:40 and then you put on
00:45:43 and he was 6'8 ".
00:45:45 I'm not kidding you,
00:45:48 My portrayal of Jason
00:45:50 showed another side
00:45:53 In "Freddy vs. Jason,"
00:45:56 with his mother,
00:46:00 I just went back
00:46:02 and I think I thought
00:46:04 not really alive,
00:46:07 Even if you look at the movements,
00:46:10 I think I used a little bit
00:46:12 Even though people think
00:46:16 and lumbers along
00:46:17 you have to feel
00:46:20 that could actually be as evil
00:46:28 Ew! Sorry, buddy.
00:46:31 I hope it was over quickly.
00:46:33 The truth is,
00:46:35 most people don't survive
00:46:37 with our murderous mongoloid.
00:46:39 Still, there have been a few
00:46:42 You know, the people that insist
00:46:46 It's a small group,
00:46:47 but they certainly gave Jason
00:46:51 Or his machete.
00:46:53 So whether it's Alice or it's Ginny
00:46:56 who make it to the end, they usually
00:46:59 The most important
00:47:02 their purity.
00:47:03 They're generally not there
00:47:06 And as a result,
00:47:09 by being able
00:47:11 It was usually the outcast.
00:47:13 the one who didn't smoke pot,
00:47:16 She was always the one
00:47:18 And I think that goes back
00:47:21 of just good versus evil.
00:47:22 The archetypes for them are
00:47:26 I never felt like a victim.
00:47:27 As a matter of fact,
00:47:30 The women were stronger
00:47:33 She's a typical, regular gal.
00:47:37 She's like any teenager
00:47:39 or young adult trying
00:47:42 to figure out what they
00:47:44 She didn't run with the pack
00:47:47 and she was different.
00:47:50 But that didn't mean
00:47:52 It just meant she thought things
00:47:57 I would love the opportunity
00:48:00 It's so much more satisfying
00:48:02 to watch a woman
00:48:04 destroy this tremendous evil.
00:48:07 Amy Steel, she was just so adorable.
00:48:11 She would probably be
00:48:15 To know that I did one
00:48:17 where they get all these women in
00:48:20 and to be the one that
00:48:23 and intelligent is just...
00:48:25 Ginny was written
00:48:27 in a more multidimensional
00:48:29 And there was something a little bit
00:48:33 She didn't need a group
00:48:36 She was strong enough
00:48:39 She wanted to figure it out.
00:48:41 Well, what would it be like today?
00:48:43 Some kind of
00:48:46 A frightened retard?
00:48:48 A child trapped
00:48:50 I think my favorite personally
00:48:54 Just the ability
00:48:56 and to manipulate Jason like she did...
00:49:00 RODAY: The genius convention
00:49:03 with telekinesis
00:49:05 to give Jason
00:49:08 in the final battle
00:49:14 One thing that I didn't want
00:49:17 to play a psychic, or someone
00:49:21 like they were someone
00:49:24 and doing some
00:49:27 of what
00:49:30 Lar Park-Lincoln as Tina,
00:49:32 It was a different take
00:49:35 That character gave it
00:49:38 PARK-LINCOLN: She didn't back down.
00:49:41 She chased him.
00:49:44 where she goes right up
00:49:46 coming around his legs
00:49:48 and taking him down
00:49:51 The most worthy opponents
00:49:53 from the movies that I did...
00:49:57 because she created
00:50:00 to Jason and survived.
00:50:02 They also started a trend where like
00:50:05 started making it through
00:50:07 I'm honored that I was a survivor.
00:50:12 If Jason wanted
00:50:13 I'd come back.
00:50:15 I would love
00:50:17 Although I think I would do it
00:50:20 So my hair
00:50:23 as it was throughout
00:50:25 I think of the whole series,
00:50:28 of Jason's biggest adversaries.
00:50:29 Jason, don't you remember?
00:50:33 Remember, Jason?
00:50:38 Zito:
00:50:40 Tommy's a kid
00:50:42 So there is a relationship
00:50:44 when Tommy takes on
00:50:47 as a weapon to undo him.
00:50:52 I would love to have gone up
00:50:55 just 'cause I'd like
00:50:59 Tommy had a very unique
00:51:01 because at least at the end
00:51:03 looks like he will become
00:51:06 In "Part 4," which Corey Feldman
00:51:08 he ends up
00:51:11 Is he monster or victim?
00:51:16 He just wants to kill everybody.
00:51:18 He didn't get me though.
00:51:21 one of the very few brothers
00:51:24 the "Friday the 13th" series,
00:51:26 They wanted
00:51:27 but we said,
00:51:30 (screams)
00:51:32 John LeMay's character...
00:51:35 because we had
00:51:37 I did put up
00:51:39 The electricity's going off
00:51:41 and I'm just breathing heavy
00:51:44 and smacking the hell out
00:51:46 but surviving Jason is an honor.
00:51:50 In my obituary,
00:51:53 but could not survive life."
00:51:55 DAGGETT: Rennie had
00:51:58 because I think her evil uncle
00:52:02 was trying to teach her how
00:52:05 Peter Mark Richman:
00:52:07 which was a not-very-nice thing
00:52:11 And she had
00:52:14 of drowning.
00:52:16 And she saw Jason
00:52:20 (screaming)
00:52:23 I felt very empowered
00:52:26 when I was the only one surviving
00:52:30 And I felt like,
00:52:32 "All right,
00:52:35 accurate portrayal
00:52:38 You didn't get me in the lake,
00:52:39 and you're not
00:52:44 I would probably go back
00:52:47 If nothing else,
00:52:51 Women in "Friday the 13th" movies
00:52:53 are always strong.
00:52:56 And we wanted
00:52:58 So Todd and I came up
00:53:01 and making the robot female.
00:53:04 One of the most delightful things
00:53:07 is like just unstoppable,
00:53:09 I feel very privileged in that
00:53:12 Even though he knocked
00:53:15 I was a talking head
00:53:17 for, I think, the last third
00:53:20 I feel like one
00:53:24 I think most of the people
00:53:26 have been women
00:53:29 have a tremendous
00:53:31 for what we've done
00:53:33 in the movies.
00:53:35 I do think that the heroines
00:53:38 but a real vulnerability
00:53:40 that attracts people.
00:53:42 People wanna love you
00:53:46 Steel:
00:53:48 to do sort of
00:53:52 gonna take on Jason...
00:53:55 Hell yeah!
00:53:57 Wouldn't it be great
00:53:58 if the strong women
00:54:02 and took him on?
00:54:04 It would be great... so maybe
00:54:08 I think that it would be very
00:54:11 of the girls,
00:54:14 an extremely strong one
00:54:17 It would be a dream movie for the fans.
00:54:21 We still have a couple
00:54:23 Jason? Where's Jason?!
00:54:26 We took care of him.
00:54:28 (siren wails)
00:54:32 (whimpers)
00:54:34 Please please
00:54:38 (girl screaming)
00:54:49 Yeah, bad luck
00:54:53 It's not just the victims
00:54:56 Over the past 30 years
00:55:00 for the "Friday the 13th"
00:55:03 Many had nothing
00:55:05 with our hockey-masked friend.
00:55:08 Paul?
00:55:14 Shooting my death scene
00:55:18 That's where
00:55:20 into the filming with me.
00:55:23 From here down,
00:55:27 There were points
00:55:29 like I couldn't go on anymore.
00:55:31 It was either 22 or 23º.
00:55:35 and she had a bikini on
00:55:38 She was so cold
00:55:40 and this girl
00:55:42 Aronson:
00:55:44 and demanded that we
00:55:46 get the shot now or else.
00:55:49 And it turns out that I had
00:55:52 and I was quite sick
00:55:54 for several days after that.
00:55:57 LEMAY: A whole day spent
00:56:01 where Jason's getting
00:56:03 and trying to drag me down
00:56:05 On the soundstage, they'd pretty
00:56:09 with a hole in it,
00:56:11 grab me by the leg
00:56:14 And for some reason
00:56:18 with me screaming
00:56:20 and just wearing my body out.
00:56:21 I thought every shot was gonna
00:56:24 I thought it was it.
00:56:26 I don't think I've ever
00:56:30 MAN: Now, dirt demons,
00:56:33 Al Magliochetti:
00:56:36 all these demons came up
00:56:39 and started grabbing Jason
00:56:43 And KNB had a very elaborate
00:56:46 with all kinds of puppets.
00:56:49 which wound up not being used
00:56:52 that actually grabbed Jason
00:56:54 and started dragging him under.
00:56:57 Isn't that cool?
00:56:59 On the final day of production
00:57:02 I got my action figure...
00:57:05 made by the hair
00:57:08 So this is my one-of-a-kind
00:57:10 We shot the ending twice.
00:57:12 We actually did
00:57:15 which most people
00:57:18 in which Dana Kimmell
00:57:20 of the house in a dream,
00:57:22 and Jason comes
00:57:24 and decapitates her.
00:57:25 This is the actual mask that
00:57:28 It's a little...
00:57:31 oh, here's a worm.
00:57:34 It's a little crumbly,
00:57:36 because as it was on my face
00:57:39 I had a bald cap on...
00:57:40 they did the whole thing
00:57:43 And so to get me out of it,
00:57:46 So it used to be something
00:57:52 Monoson:
00:57:56 I had to be stoned.
00:57:58 And so I thought,
00:58:01 to actually be stoned
00:58:03 So I go to my trailer
00:58:06 I'm a very paranoid
00:58:08 So it was the worst worst idea
00:58:12 And they knocked on my door
00:58:14 I'm like, "What?!"
00:58:17 and I'm like, "Okay."
00:58:20 So they take me
00:58:22 and, actors,
00:58:25 It's absolutely the worst thing.
00:58:27 I was out of my mind.
00:58:29 Richman:
00:58:31 in my bedroom
00:58:35 and I was getting
00:58:37 turned on.
00:58:39 In the editing
00:58:41 And I was pissed off.
00:58:43 I was really...
00:58:45 having it affect me.
00:58:47 The MPAA really went after
00:58:51 'cause they were asleep
00:58:53 They kind of let it pass.
00:58:56 and after all the criticism,
00:59:00 Probably the most heavily edited
00:59:04 The MPAA was just vicious
00:59:07 Ratings board raped my movie.
00:59:10 I equate horror
00:59:12 to telling a joke.
00:59:14 Everything's in the setup
00:59:16 has gotta be,
00:59:19 We were telling the joke
00:59:21 to give them the punchline.
00:59:23 So what you see
00:59:25 in the final cut of "Friday VII,"
00:59:27 which is not really my cut,
00:59:30 of what we hoped it would be.
00:59:33 Rotten:
00:59:35 to a lot of parent advocate groups
00:59:39 I mean, you had parents picketing
00:59:42 for certain films sometimes.
00:59:44 I think the MPAA gets crazy
00:59:48 at the same time, so I think that's
00:59:51 All the sequels
00:59:53 to secure R ratings.
00:59:56 Steinmann:
00:59:58 after a lot heavy-duty fights,
01:00:04 insisted that we omit
01:00:08 Almost every kill
01:00:10 was either off-screen
01:00:13 or minimized.
01:00:14 ROSS: Tiffany Helm, there was a scene
01:00:16 where she had her death scene.
01:00:19 because it would have
01:00:23 Jason was gonna
01:00:26 Tiffany was gonna have
01:00:28 and he was just gonna go like...
01:00:31 Couldn't show that back then.
01:00:35 X. Shoot it.
01:00:39 KING: "Friday the 13th" was
01:00:43 and then slowly I realized
01:00:45 I had a stalker.
01:00:47 I had an ordeal with him
01:00:51 which in itself
01:00:55 It's all okay now.
01:00:59 And having
01:01:01 of fans from
01:01:05 to wherever I am
01:01:08 that really talk to me
01:01:11 it affected them
01:01:13 it's just a gift.
01:01:15 It's a beautiful thing and I don't
01:01:19 I thank them.
01:01:23 Steel:
01:01:26 was in Jason's lair
01:01:28 when I put the sweater on
01:01:31 and I talked to him
01:01:33 And he's supposed
01:01:35 to bring up this pickaxe.
01:01:37 So I got really anxious
01:01:39 and I brought the machete down.
01:01:42 She missed the pickaxe,
01:01:44 and she came down
01:01:47 Steel:
01:01:49 I think he had the machete
01:01:52 and walks into
01:01:54 and they're like, "Oh my God!"
01:01:56 Then he said, " No no,
01:01:59 And I have 13 stitches
01:02:02 It's right here.
01:02:05 And then he came back
01:02:07 and we started all over again.
01:02:09 We stayed at the camp. At one
01:02:13 I think it was John Furey
01:02:16 and Russell Todd...
01:02:17 knew where I was staying.
01:02:20 And they went
01:02:22 when it was really dark out
01:02:23 and they started scratching
01:02:27 I fainted.
01:02:30 flat on the floor
01:02:32 'cause I just went... (gasps)
01:02:38 (rock music playing)
01:02:42 Though the counselors
01:02:44 worked very hard to keep
01:02:47 the same can't be said
01:02:50 which have had more
01:02:53 and inconsistencies,
01:02:55 leaving the fans longing
01:03:00 Oh, no way, Becca.
01:03:02 - You so owe me a Wonderbra.
01:03:05 Well, okay.
01:03:07 Strip Monopoly's
01:03:10 Oooh!
01:03:15 Camp Crystal Lake rocks.
01:03:17 One of the things
01:03:19 never really took pride in
01:03:22 How could it be Friday the 13th
01:03:25 are within three or four days?
01:03:26 I don't think Monday the 16th
01:03:28 has quite the same ring to it.
01:03:30 Cohen:
01:03:32 and show me categorically
01:03:36 and where the writer of "VI" was wrong,
01:03:38 And you know what, so what?
01:03:42 King:
01:03:44 at convention after convention
01:03:47 that they felt "ripped off"
01:03:49 about the way Alice died
01:03:52 She didn't even see him.
01:03:55 As far as I'm concerned,
01:03:57 If Jason is who I believe he is
01:04:01 and who I think the fans
01:04:03 it's not like he can look
01:04:06 It's not like she would be listed
01:04:09 She got away.
01:04:10 he comes to her apartment
01:04:12 Now what I want to know is
01:04:15 There was a "Friday the 13th"
01:04:18 LeMay:
01:04:21 and the movies
01:04:22 had in common
01:04:24 It turns out it was about
01:04:27 to retrieve cursed artifacts
01:04:29 from a pawnshop.
01:04:31 I think a lot of people who were
01:04:34 didn't like the fact
01:04:36 and tried to sneak a fast one
01:04:40 So beginning with "Part III,"
01:04:42 when Jason finds the mask
01:04:45 that everyone identifies
01:04:47 there's been some debate
01:04:49 how that happened.
01:04:51 And the one thing that
01:04:54 is who put the hockey mask
01:04:57 One day we were doing
01:05:00 on "Friday the 13th Part III."
01:05:02 So just for the 3D concept,
01:05:04 I must admit, in modesty,
01:05:07 that I put the hockey mask
01:05:09 I don't care
01:05:11 They weren't gonna use that bag again
01:05:14 to me with the burns.
01:05:16 That's why they came up
01:05:19 I believe it was Peter Schindler
01:05:22 and Marty Becker were
01:05:26 And it was their idea
01:05:29 to cover the face up.
01:05:30 Every time
01:05:33 wearing
01:05:34 I figure, " Wow, this is
01:05:38 They're all still bickering
01:05:41 mine.
01:05:43 KATZ: The end of
01:05:46 one of the most confusing endings
01:05:49 Probably easily the most,
01:05:51 version of teenaged Jason.
01:05:53 Paul! Where's Paul?
01:05:56 For me, it wasn't a dream.
01:05:59 Maybe that's one
01:06:02 is that you get to decide that
01:06:04 On "Freddy vs. Jason,"
01:06:07 with casting Jason
01:06:11 and didn't cast Kane Hodder.
01:06:13 And I was really surprised.
01:06:16 I really wanted to use Kane
01:06:20 that he really kind of
01:06:23 And he was directing
01:06:26 It was a shame at some level
01:06:29 About our clothes, I mean...
01:06:33 that's slightly the weirdest thing
01:06:35 which were supposed
01:06:37 and we're dressed
01:06:39 Camilla More:
01:06:41 Our hair put up in sort
01:06:44 I mean, hello.
01:06:45 And the pink puffy shirts
01:06:49 LYNCH: It's kind of like
01:06:52 It's like, where is Crystal Lake?
01:06:55 where is this Crystal Lake,
01:06:58 I can definitively answer
01:07:02 Crystal Lake is in
01:07:06 And the reason we know that
01:07:08 Shelly and Vera go
01:07:11 and in the store,
01:07:13 it says " Welcome to Green Valley,
01:07:17 KATZ: "Jason Takes Manhattan"...
01:07:20 teaser posters of all time,
01:07:23 ultimately, the "I Heart New York,"
01:07:25 that's actually something
01:07:27 by probably, I'm guessing,
01:07:30 and that's actually a very valuable
01:07:35 Crystal Lake has changed sizes.
01:07:38 from this tiny little lake
01:07:41 to New York.
01:07:43 The cruise ship wasn't really
01:07:45 The cruise ship was on the ocean.
01:07:48 because I've seen places where
01:07:51 And we ultimately just said,
01:07:53 People may get mad at us for that,
01:07:56 Body switching
01:07:57 I think that was a terrible
01:08:00 Roday:
01:08:03 in "Part 9"...unacceptable.
01:08:07 Gordon.
01:08:12 The most rational character
01:08:14 "Friday the 13th" series
01:08:16 You don't know whether Jason grabbed
01:08:19 The dog sees Jason
01:08:21 apparently jumping
01:08:23 There was a big fight over
01:08:26 I think he jumped,
01:08:28 some people will
01:08:30 Maybe Tina from "VII" telekinetically
01:08:41 Well, he was bound
01:08:44 If there's one thing
01:08:46 it's escaping Jason
01:08:49 Over the last three decades,
01:08:51 has gone beyond
01:08:54 In fact, it's clear that Jason
01:08:56 has done more
01:08:58 In fact, I'd say
01:09:04 (gears grind)
01:09:06 Oh! That had to hurt.
01:09:09 Interestingly enough,
01:09:10 Jason did manage
01:09:14 in a big big way.
01:09:18 with "Part III" in 3D.
01:09:21 I have the home-theater glass set,
01:09:24 so you can see it and watch it
01:09:27 and I have them on,
01:09:29 I'm watching
01:09:31 GRAHAM: From a merchandising
01:09:34 I cannot believe
01:09:36 He is no less marketable
01:09:39 or Mickey Mouse at this point.
01:09:40 Jason is making money.
01:09:43 I mean, does he get
01:09:46 I'm very curious.
01:09:47 Jason Voorhees has been
01:09:50 starting with this Nintendo game
01:09:52 Adam Green:
01:09:54 All you did is run around the cabins. And
01:09:57 Jason's in here! I'm dead.
01:09:58 My name's James Rolfe.
01:10:01 "The Angry Video Game Nerd."
01:10:03 The "Friday the 13th" episode
01:10:05 on Friday the 13th,
01:10:09 Uh-oh, he's coming. Whoa!
01:10:12 Well, he scared the shit out
01:10:15 like in " Mike Tyson's
01:10:17 They've created a hero image
01:10:19 of an individual that's unstoppable.
01:10:22 He's this super slasher hero.
01:10:24 There's no rhyme or reason,
01:10:26 He's been on lunchboxes
01:10:28 and I think he was
01:10:30 - (screams)
01:10:32 Those I believe were banned
01:10:35 There's been countless TV shows
01:10:37 - from "MADtv."
01:10:41 Yeah, we've done a bunch
01:10:43 The first thing we did was
01:10:47 (chainsaw whirring)
01:10:49 We did a Scooby gang
01:10:51 - of Camp Crystal Lake.
01:10:53 When it gets referenced
01:10:55 or "South Park," that's like
01:10:57 (screams)
01:10:58 I love the fact that "The Simpsons"
01:11:02 - They should be here by now.
01:11:05 - (switches channel)
01:11:07 it was absolutely invigorating
01:11:10 and also it was like, " Where have
01:11:14 We're giving a Lifetime
01:11:16 to a masked predator.
01:11:19 Shortly after we did
01:11:21 I was asked to do
01:11:24 in costume as a guest.
01:11:26 He pulled the whole interview off
01:11:29 How are you?
01:11:35 - That's good.
01:11:37 in full costume
01:11:40 Miska:
01:11:41 there's dolls,
01:11:43 there's even a haunted house
01:11:47 and in Hollywood.
01:11:49 One of the greatest thrills
01:11:53 was going to the Universal
01:11:56 Jason Voorhees is running after you.
01:11:59 in the whole costume.
01:12:03 Hi, I'm John Murdy,
01:12:06 Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights
01:12:08 in front of the Crystal Lake cabin
01:12:12 When you're designing
01:12:15 there's basically three things
01:12:17 One is that the property has legs.
01:12:19 Second is that
01:12:22 that you can achieve with actors,
01:12:25 are strong and easily recognizable.
01:12:28 So we were very lucky
01:12:31 we were able to get
01:12:33 and basically turn our theme park
01:12:36 In this case, he's got
01:12:40 His head's in the vise. Jason
01:12:43 We have a triggered audio effect
01:12:45 in his skull are crushing,
01:12:47 and we tied this
01:12:50 so that the guests think "eye goo"
01:12:53 is shooting out
01:12:56 This is for the wheelchair victim
01:12:58 Again, there's a secret door
01:13:01 so he can make
01:13:03 and this poor guy
01:13:06 When you're designing an attraction like
01:13:09 for us, what we really want
01:13:12 to the fans
01:13:14 from the "Friday the 13th" series.
01:13:16 So this is a kill
01:13:18 This is the guy who gets
01:13:20 There's a performer that's laying here
01:13:24 Jason comes storming
01:13:26 He grabs hold of the bed, and he gives
01:13:34 With Jason,
01:13:36 Every year
01:13:39 The McFarlane stuff
01:13:41 they all look great.
01:13:43 articulated, awesome looking.
01:13:46 Who would have thought
01:13:50 There was a great book
01:13:53 "Crystal Lake Memories"
01:13:57 Peter Bracke did a great job.
01:13:59 He interviewed a lot of us
01:14:02 from producers, directors
01:14:06 And it covers the series
01:14:08 It was so fun to have come
01:14:12 and to see all the people
01:14:14 that are now a part of
01:14:16 this whole "Friday the 13th"
01:14:19 It was a party for the launch
01:14:21 of the "Crystal Lake Memories" book,
01:14:24 and we signed all
01:14:26 And then of course
01:14:28 and cut the cake
01:14:30 and that was awfully fun.
01:14:32 An iconic brand
01:14:34 Everybody knows Jason.
01:14:37 Everybody, all ages.
01:14:38 It's all over the world.
01:14:40 At Halloween,
01:14:43 down the hall
01:14:45 There's at least one kid
01:14:47 who is Jason Voorhees,
01:14:49 and the funny thing is
01:14:52 in the sense
01:14:53 Jason is a big icon.
01:14:55 I had a trick-or-treater
01:14:57 a little kid dressed as Jason.
01:14:59 And I went,
01:15:01 And the kid kind of looked at me
01:15:04 And I asked my nephew,
01:15:06 I said, "What is that?"
01:15:08 And I said, " You know
01:15:11 And he said, " Oh, I've never
01:15:14 but I know all about Jason."
01:15:16 In hindsight, it seems silly
01:15:18 The critics were outraged.
01:15:20 Gene Siskel launched a letter-writing
01:15:22 "Friday the 13th:
01:15:25 an immoral and reprehensible
01:15:27 When Roger Ebert said
01:15:30 "an immoral and reprehensible
01:15:33 I thought, " Two thumbs up.
01:15:37 Kratka:
01:15:39 that gets labeled things
01:15:42 or just unjustifiably.
01:15:44 And I think "Friday the 13th" s
01:15:46 they're scary movies.
01:15:48 As film critics,
01:15:51 the fact that they are
01:15:54 for a very defined demographic.
01:15:57 We have fun reading reviews.
01:16:00 and especially if someone gets
01:16:04 it's great. In a way it's sort of like
01:16:07 if they're clever in the way
01:16:10 What's more appealing
01:16:12 That's the oldest story
01:16:14 So when you say
01:16:16 "You can't go see that movie, young man.
01:16:20 I'm pretty confident that's the first
01:16:24 As long as nobody's going out
01:16:28 they never had to put
01:16:31 on the screen... so it's all fun.
01:16:33 It's not attracting psychos to it.
01:16:35 It really does attract
01:16:39 a very respectful
01:16:43 Jason can survive anything,
01:16:46 If you're taking these films
01:16:49 you should probably
01:16:52 or do something else.
01:16:54 I started the Screamfest
01:16:56 as a platform to give
01:16:59 to further their careers and have
01:17:03 I think some of the films
01:17:05 definitely have been influenced
01:17:08 Most recently I would say
01:17:11 I think almost any slasher movie
01:17:14 post-"Friday the 13th"
01:17:16 kind of tipped their hat to it.
01:17:18 It's a great independent film.
01:17:21 and... what?
01:17:24 to look back and see young filmmakers,
01:17:27 to have a film that's reminiscent
01:17:30 So it's kind of cool.
01:17:31 I've been to a million conventions
01:17:33 and I see people
01:17:37 It's a lot of fun.
01:17:44 Come on, it's beautiful.
01:17:46 We bleed for this shit.
01:17:48 The fans are open to creating
01:17:51 about them too.
01:17:53 MAN: He had just received
01:17:56 inviting him to take part
01:18:00 Jason doesn't have a star
01:18:03 This is terrible.
01:18:07 and he can't get a star?
01:18:09 Jason is a star!
01:18:13 (silent)
01:18:17 Oh, sorry.
01:18:19 was using this room.
01:18:27 (girl screaming)
01:18:29 Okay, I admit it.
01:18:32 But as we've seen,
01:18:35 I mean, after all a good killer
01:18:38 Which is exactly why the original
01:18:41 of Jason Voorhees
01:18:44 and repackaged
01:18:47 It's exciting to see Jason up
01:18:51 (girl screaming)
01:18:56 So now after all of this time,
01:18:58 playing around with Jason
01:19:01 for all these years,
01:19:02 there comes a new look,
01:19:06 in this new reimagining
01:19:09 or reboot of the franchise.
01:19:11 I hope the fans will enjoy it
01:19:14 I enjoyed it from, which is
01:19:16 to see Jason
01:19:19 for the first time again.
01:19:20 To be able to work
01:19:22 and to see that mask...
01:19:24 that he wore that mask on set,
01:19:27 It was amazing,
01:19:29 that here's this thing
01:19:32 and it's right here
01:19:34 because when we watched it as kids,
01:19:37 It's made by people
01:19:40 but who are going at it
01:19:43 than we ever had
01:19:45 This remake centers
01:19:49 between the Whitney character
01:19:52 which is played by Jared Padalecki.
01:19:56 There's enough characters in there
01:20:00 so there's gonna be
01:20:03 They've already said
01:20:05 They've already said that,
01:20:08 but along with the deaths, you might have
01:20:10 and it's gonna be a good contrast.
01:20:12 What I think makes
01:20:14 is Jason being
01:20:17 and not sort of that
01:20:21 He's a person.
01:20:23 where everyone
01:20:25 and in touch with their feelings.
01:20:28 and I feel like people can relate
01:20:30 which almost makes the killings
01:20:33 I think there's more heart involved.
01:20:35 That I think is exciting,
01:20:38 And you have to figure out
01:20:41 and keep renewing
01:20:44 And they've taken
01:20:47 of the first four
01:20:49 What the fans can expect to see
01:20:52 is the best aspects
01:20:54 taken out and mixed up
01:20:56 and put into a brand-new film
01:20:59 I think they're gonna see
01:21:02 They're gonna see
01:21:05 We really strived to give audiences
01:21:09 or, and maybe better,
01:21:11 kills they had seen
01:21:14 And something else
01:21:17 that really hasn't been
01:21:19 our movie has a ton
01:21:21 They're gonna see
01:21:24 unique sex scenes.
01:21:26 It's gonna be an entertaining
01:21:28 wild roller-coaster of a ride.
01:21:30 We've gone to great lengths
01:21:32 to make the movie
01:21:34 to be very respectful
01:21:36 I think this film is gonna
01:21:40 not just the hardcore
01:21:43 It's not only remarkably scary,
01:21:45 but very very funny.
01:21:47 The mythology will stay intact.
01:21:50 Jason is still Jason.
01:21:51 Our hope is that
01:21:54 love the film as much as people
01:21:58 We're hopeful
01:22:00 at authenticity
01:22:03 and we suspect that they will,
01:22:05 I think, regardless,
01:22:08 and that's that.
01:22:10 I'm excited to be a part of this...
01:22:14 colossal franchise.
01:22:16 To just be a part of the name
01:22:19 a little exhilarating
01:22:21 We all love Jason Voorhees.
01:22:23 Reggie will kick his butt. Reggie
01:22:27 I will put the red suit on,
01:22:30 - I ain't playing.
01:22:32 who loved "Friday the 13th"
01:22:35 with this newer, slicker,
01:22:38 of the story.
01:22:41 I think that you're gonna have people
01:22:44 as the first "Friday the 13th"
01:22:47 And this will hopefully
01:22:49 set a new level of quality
01:22:52 so that the franchise
01:22:57 - (insects chirping)
01:22:59 Excuse me, miss,
01:23:01 I think you dropped...
01:23:03 she won't be needing this.
01:23:05 Over the years,
01:23:07 that's kept moviegoers flocking
01:23:10 but it's not just the fans
01:23:13 Jason's never-ending
01:23:22 "Friday the 13th" has
01:23:25 It's quite amazing.
01:23:26 There are people
01:23:30 The "Friday the 13th" films
01:23:32 And I think people are constantly
01:23:36 On the night of its opening,
01:23:40 We went to six theaters that night,
01:23:42 and we couldn't get in.
01:23:44 We couldn't get in anywhere.
01:23:46 "Holy cow, I think we really
01:23:48 When I tell them
01:23:51 it's so fun for me.
01:23:52 Thanks to "Friday the 13th,"
01:23:54 my 15 minutes keeps going.
01:23:57 Playing a character
01:23:59 is an amazing feeling
01:24:02 and something
01:24:04 There's really no putting
01:24:06 but there seems to be a loyalty
01:24:08 and a fascination with it
01:24:11 It's really the audience
01:24:13 that brings Jason back
01:24:15 The legend grows
01:24:18 People like getting scared.
01:24:21 They're just gonna wait... oh!
01:24:23 It surprises me
01:24:25 just about how
01:24:26 the "Friday the 13th"
01:24:29 and just go on and on. The
01:24:32 When you do "The Final Chapter,"
01:24:35 to be the final chapter.
01:24:37 This was the last one.
01:24:40 "The Final Friday,"
01:24:43 and I remember people saying
01:24:46 That was 1992.
01:24:48 I get three, four, five
01:24:52 for autographs and pictures
01:24:55 People still contact me.
01:24:58 from the film
01:25:01 People send me things to sign...
01:25:04 I'm like,
01:25:05 "Friday the 13th" has given me
01:25:08 is just bigger than life itself.
01:25:10 I get the most beautiful stories
01:25:12 about how Alice's strength
01:25:15 so many people
01:25:18 I was 27 years old
01:25:21 Number-one-box-office movie
01:25:24 This was the best
01:25:26 Because when you have a knife
01:25:29 you really learn how
01:25:31 I hope the audience is
01:25:33 - as we are making it.
01:25:35 still is an honor
01:25:38 And it's really
01:25:40 so I think that's
01:25:42 I think the audience
01:25:44 the same way that
01:25:46 The same way they want
01:25:48 I've found that
01:25:51 didn't give 2¢ for
01:25:53 in the beginning
01:25:55 into the world,
01:25:57 who have viewed it
01:26:00 Did you know that
01:26:02 The counselors weren't
01:26:05 His name was Jason.
01:26:08 Well, there you have it...
01:26:12 a movie that was made
01:26:14 but made America
01:26:17 And one that singlehandedly
01:26:20 to modern slasher cinema,
01:26:22 generating box office success
01:26:26 You know,
01:26:28 and influence
01:26:31 who try to capture
01:26:34 And on top of that,
01:26:36 that Jason Voorhees
01:26:40 recognized the world over.
01:26:43 So here we are.
01:26:45 and "Friday the 13th" lives on.
01:26:47 And it's because of you
01:26:50 keeps coming back
01:26:52 So let me return the favor.
01:26:55 If somebody invites you
01:26:57 just don't go. (grunts)
01:27:00 (gasps)
01:27:02 (sighs)
01:27:10 My bad. Sorry.
01:27:11 (imitating soundtrack)
01:27:17 It's supposed to be...
01:27:18 - Not everybody knows that.
01:27:21 I showed them how I can fart
01:27:24 but the camera
01:27:26 so yeah.
01:27:28 (rock music playing)
01:27:37 - I think if Vera had...
01:27:42 (screaming)
01:27:47 (screams)
01:27:49 I thought it was Jason.
01:27:51 Kill her, Mommy!
01:27:53 And he's still there.
01:27:55 There's somebody
01:27:59 Why do you do
01:28:01 I just want you to like me.
01:28:02 I got a date
01:28:05 Ted, Ted,
01:28:08 Come on, Sara,
01:28:11 Bad news crews.
01:28:13 It's okay, guys.
01:28:16 Axel, you are the Super Bowl
01:28:20 This feels good!
01:28:23 Nobody's gonna touch that
01:28:26 I have seen enough
01:28:28 any weirdo wearing a mask
01:28:31 That's what's known
01:28:33 Ben, are you coming back or not?
01:28:37 You didn't get me in the lake, Jason,
01:28:43 My earring.
01:28:45 You could use a little
01:28:49 MAN: And cut.
01:28:51 Melissa's a bitch.
01:28:54 I can't even do it.
01:28:56 It's a real pain in the ass.
01:28:57 And you're gonna use that
01:28:59 I said, "It's a real pain in the ass."
01:29:01 Finally he gets hacked to death
01:29:05 Yo, Feld-dawg,
01:29:07 (smacks)
01:29:09 I'm getting Haim
01:29:11 - (growls)
01:29:15 I found it.
01:29:17 I didn't have a clue
01:29:19 in "Jason Goes to Hell."
01:29:21 A lot of shaving.
01:29:23 It's creepy.
01:29:26 Homoerotic... shaven.
01:29:29 (speaks gibberish)
01:29:32 Never show your breasts...
01:29:37 Here comes first Jason!
01:29:39 We're gonna go up to Crystal Lake
01:29:41 that there's horrible things...
01:29:43 There's bananas everywhere.
01:29:45 It is a lot easier
01:29:49 than it is to watch Dick Cheney.
01:29:51 You give up?
01:29:53 MAN: Never!
01:29:56 I don't know
01:29:58 There's only one thing
01:30:00 that Jason knows,
01:30:05 (man softly)
